I Can Spend Money On Myself

Part of the reason I love blogging – and vlogging – is that it forces me to do things I otherwise wouldn’t and to examine the way I think about things.  I have a problem spending money on myself.  Truly.  My clothes tend to hang around forever in my closet – last week, did you see my vlog on the oldest item in my closet and blog on the special items I found in my closet while preparing that vlog? – and I don’t buy new ones often.  When I do, they are always on sale and frequently on clearance.  I own fewer shoes than almost anyone I know.  I could go on and on.

That said, I can go out to dinner with friends and not worry about it.  I finally figured out why.  As long as I’m not doing it too often, it’s as much about them as it is me.  They’re enjoying my company and getting out of their houses, so the money I’m spending isn’t just for my benefit.

This week’s #VlogMom question came from Veronica Pericon from Veep Veep who asked the perfect question for me:

What’s the last thing you bought that truly was worth it? Absolutely no regrets.

Wow.  No regrets?  I really had to think about it.  Fortunately, the serendipity of this question and a conversation with some friends last week gave me my answer.

And no, this was not sponsored in any way. I truly love this store and drag all my friends there. They love it, too, and I constantly get complimented on items I’ve purchased there. If you’re in the Chicago area, head over to Dom itp and tell them I sent you – just for fun. There’s truly no compensation or sponsorship.

  1. Awwww…. you I’m so glad you “splurged” on yourself! A new accessory always puts an extra spring in my step.

    • I know. It’s funny that I consider a $25 purchase a splurge, but… I have a Depression Era mentality sometimes! Of course I can spend $25 on the wee ones with no problem. I adore that purse though – so glad I got it!

  2. LOVE the outfit–those shoes are so cute! Hope you’re having fun tonight!! And YAY on the bag! Adorable–I bet it went well tonight at the dance, too.

    • I had an absolute blast – I didn’t get home until almost 2am. The shoes are so much fun – and again… $11 for a $70 pair of shoes, I’m all over it!

  3. The outfit AND the bag are fabulous! And I hear you about splurging on yourself… I am the same way. I can spend money on others, and yes, go out to dinner without a ton of guilt, but shopping… just for me? It’s a tough one. Glad I’m not alone.

    • You are SO not alone, Kelli! And sadly, I actually didn’t wear that outfit. I put it on again and decided it made me look pregnant. So I switched it out with a different one. And yes, I spent money that night at the event!

  4. I love the outfit, esp. the top and shoes and the bag is really cute and a great deal! I have to vlog again. Like soon! Hope you had fun at the school event.

    • I wish you would vlog again – I love seeing your vlogs, Rajean. The school event was a blast, and I came home with a couple great things. I love seeing all the school friends outside our usual environment. It’s nice to remember we’re real people and not just parents sometimes :)

  5. I don’t even want to tell you how much money I spend on a purse! The last one I bought was not even close to 2 digits!

    • Somehow, that doesn’t surprise me :) I actually almost bought a purse today that I was hoping to get for Mother’s Day that was $30 but ended up deciding against it for now because… I wasn’t sure that I still loved it. I think I need a Sugar Daddy ;)
