Top 3 Wedding Tips

I’ve been married a good long time.  Not nearly as long as many people I know, but I have a solid ten years of experience.  That said, I remember my wedding like it was yesterday.  Maybe not all the details, but many of the impressions and definitely all the planning I did.  I was among the first of my set of friends to get married, so I didn’t have a ton of experience with wedding planning, but my Type A personality loved it, and I had fun passing my knowledge (and spreadsheets) along to other friends.

So when Julie Pron of Julieverse asks this week’s #VlogMom question, I was excited.  The struggle for me was… which way do I take it?

VlogMom Wedding Advice

So of course there’s the advice about taking care of your nails starting around two to three months before your wedding.  To get my nails the right length and strength and shape – and figure out the exact color I wanted meant I had to get weekly manicures for the ten or so weeks before my wedding.  And I’m glad I did.  And I’m also glad I didn’t choose a bright color for my nails.  I’ve seen wedding photos since with bright red nails and my eye goes straight to them instead of focusing elsewhere in the photo because it’s such a contrast.  Go with a more natural color or French, and it looks way better in photos.

I’m also glad that I invited the people I cared about to my wedding, but one regret I have is that I didn’t invite everyone on my list.  We kept it fairly small – around 130 people, but there were just 15 or 20 more I really wish I’d invited and had there to celebrate my day, but I didn’t.  And that’s something I regret to this day.

There was also a lot that I did that I’m happy about from not decorating the church aside from handing out roses to each of the female guests to making a fun favor – a CD of the first 18 songs we danced to at our wedding that people talked about for years afterward – to making it clear to our DJ that while we love to dance and love the music, I want people to be able to hold a conversation, so keep the volume reasonable.

And hey – you know now not to use your iPhone as your DJ, right?

But my top three tips?  Those I can’t wait to share with you.  What are your tips for your friends getting married?
