Red Apple Lipstick Review

I try to be careful with what I ingest.  That goes not just for the foods I eat – where we do our best to eat primarily unprocessed foods and foods where we know what the ingredients are and mean – but also in lotions and cosmetics I use.  There are so many nasty chemicals and ingredients from dyes to lead to parabens and more that I just don’t want floating around in my body.  When I had the chance to review Red Apple Lipstick products that are not just gluten free but also free of GMOs, petroleum products, dairy, soy, corn, animal products, and harsh chemicals, I was all over it.

With so many people having allergies now, and Little Miss having a dairy allergy in particular, I’ve been worried about cosmetics for Little Miss as she grows older.  I already knew about (and was using) products that are paraben free and lead free.  That’s the easy part.  It was the gluten free and the rest that I was having a bigger challenge finding.  And I’ll be honest that my few ingredient lip glosses that I’ve found previously tend to dry out on my lips and feel cakey.  It’s not quite the look I’m going for.

Red Apple Lipstick is different from those lipsticks, and I’m thrilled with the lipstick and lip gloss that I’ve tried so far.  They are made with vitamin E in small batches in Texas, which helps keep them fresh and allows them to actually make my lips softer.  There are 34 gluten-free lipstick colors, although some are currently sold out – a function of being made in small batches.  Most are $23.50, with a Copper Candy at $17.50 using the original Red Apple formula.  When product is out of stock, you can still add it to your wish list for when it’s restocked.

There are fewer lip glosses, “only” 19 to choose from that range from $17.50 to $19.50 per gloss.  Many of the glosses have a peppermint or spearmint, which is refreshing when you put it on.  The glosses aren’t tacky, and I can drink and eat without losing all my gloss, something that rarely happens.  It feels smooth on, and the glosses are designed to be worn alone or over the Red Apple Lipstick to intensify or change colors.  In fact, one of the cool things about the Red Apple Lipstick site is that on each page, the colors that pair well with the lipstick or lip gloss you’re  viewing are listed, which makes it easier to mix and match shades so that what you purchase is complementary.

Red Apple Lipstick doesn’t just talk the talk.  In addition to making the products that are free of all the ingredients I don’t want, they ship smart.  Instead of coming in huge boxes and bags with tons of waste – something I hate – the lipsticks and lip glosses come in a small cloth pouch that I can reuse.  I love that Red Apple Lipstick isn’t creating more garbage and waste than necessary.  And it’s cute, too – perfect for gifts.

The cool thing about the Red Apple lipsticks themselves is that because they are mineral based, you can actually change the color of the lipstick based on how much you apply.  I can start with just a bit of my lipstick and look great for the day or keep applying it to deepen the color and make it more appropriate for an evening out.  That’s one of the things that has always attracted me to mineral makeup, but Red Apple Lipstick is the one that truly feels good when it’s on my lips.

I chose Berry Blast for my lipstick review, and it’s not a sickly sweet berry purple red that I’ve seen in so many other “berry” named lipsticks.  This one has a shimmer in it with a hint of bronze that matures the color and makes it much more attractive in my mind.  It glides on smooth and then stays there.  It isn’t a “24 hour” lipstick that dries out and leaves your lips feeling horrid.  Instead, it stays where it should and continues to feel soft and supple until hours later.

My Cabernet Kiss lip gloss is one of the top sellers and darker than I would normally wear – or so it looked online.  I wanted to try something bolder, and this is a perfect fit for me, as well.  It has a spearmint touch to it which I can smell as I apply it but isn’t overwhelming and doesn’t make my lips sting at all.  It applies so smoothly and feels great without being a goopy sticky mess like so many other glosses I’ve used in the past are.  Let’s just say that I’m sold on Red Apple Lipstick.

Buying lip color online can be a challenge.  What I see on my monitor isn’t necessarily the color of the gloss or lipstick.  And when I wear a color, it doesn’t look the same as it does on my friends who have slightly different skin tones.  Red Apple Lipstick understands that and offers a 100% money back guarantee within 30 days of your purchase for any reason.  That takes out much of the risk, although you can also order sample kits with pods of the lipstick for $3.50 apiece.  They aren’t one time applications, either, as the pods contain enough lipstick to try the color repeatedly to get a good sense of what works for you and what doesn’t.

With Red Apple Lipstick, it keeps getting better.  Shipping is a flat $6.30, but it’s free for purchases over $25 in the continental US.  And if you join the VIP club, you get 10% off every purchase plus regular coupons each month for additional discounts.  It’s easy to see how you could get addicted!  Did I mention that there are specials where you can buy 2 lipsticks and get the third half off?  Or buy 4 lipsticks and get the fifth free?  The same holds true for glosses.  The only downside is that you can’t mix and match.  I’d love to see pricing for a lipstick and gloss combo since the site promotes the combinations so effectively.

In addition to the lipstick and lip gloss that I received and reviewed, Red Apple Lipstick also makes lip pencils, eye shadows, an exfoliation stick for lips, and Rallye Balm which is a balm designed to heal lips but also works under your eyes and with your nail beds.  The Rallye Balm is definitely my next purchase, as I have huge issue with keeping my nail beds healthy in the winter that is too fast approaching.
