On May 1, MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released in theaters, and we are counting down the days. We have been way into super heroes for a long time, and it isn’t uncommon to see Little Miss walking around in her Spiderman Halloween costume that truly no longer fits her. We cannot wait for the next Avengers installment. I created a fun Avengers Bingo printable to keep us entertained, and I discovered the Super Heroes Assemble app, which is a fun augmented reality app that we’ve been giggling over, too.
It’s hard to miss seeing information about the Super Heroes Assemble app when you walk into Walmart. I noticed the signage on the security scanners right away, and of course I was curious and had to download it. It is available both for Android and iOS platforms.
I’m glad I downloaded it right when I walked into the store, too, because throughout the store, there are different signs and product packages that have bonus contend you can unlock by scanning them within the app. When you have the app open and select different areas, you will see the item that you need to scan to download that bonus content. For example, the family size Cheez-It baked snacks with MARVEL’s The Avengers on the front is one of the items. When you see that prompt to scan, simply point your phone at the Cheez-Its package, and you’ll get a message when it has recognized it and successfully unlocked the new content.
And of course with my family, that wasn’t it when it came to MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron. I headed into the clothing section and found some great shirts for my husband, Little Miss, and Mister Man. Yes, Little Miss is just as into super heroes as anyone else in our family, as well she should be. Needless to say, I set these on the dining room table before anyone else got home as a surprise, and the squeals of delight told me I chose the right items.
I also snagged some MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron Doritos with Iron Man (my favorite character) on the front. Of course, I had to find something fun to do with them, which is where the Avengers Bingo Game comes in, but more on that later!
There were so many different products with tie-ins for MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron throughout the store. It was hard to narrow down just a few special goodies for my family. but I finally managed. Really, having to choose my favorite characters on different Dr. Pepper varieties? That’s just cruel!
I had a blast hunting around the store to try to find all the different signs and items to unlock content in the Super Heroes Assemble app. You’ll be able to find them in various places throughout the store The good news is that if you can’t find the signs in your store, you can still visit Walmart’s MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron page where you can find many of the same items from the stores.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and you’ll see an icon to lock more epic content. Click on that, and a popup with appear with five of the scannable items you need. It doesn’t have the Kellogg’s Fruit Snacks or Cheez-It products, but it can get you fairly far in the augmented reality app.
To unlock items on your phone from your computer, simply point your phone at your computer with the appropriate scan request showing that matches your screen. I did find that sometimes I had to tilt it and hold it at different angles to get it to unlock the content.
Just as with the store, when you unlock content, you’ll get a success message.
The app itself has several different functions, all of which of fun in their own way. You can suit up as the various characters that you’ve unlocked on your phone. Simply take a photo of yourself (or someone else), and select the character whose items you want to add to your photo. For example, you can choose Thor’s hammer or Black Widow’s bracelets. I chose to stick with my favorite and become Iron Man with his glove. Once you’ve completed your photo, you can share it through any of the photo sharing apps you have on your phone from Picasa to Google+ to Instagram and more.
I did learn quickly that although the app is horizontally based, you want to take your photo for this with your camera set vertically. You can use two fingers to resize and rotate the various add-ons of your chosen character, but it’s easier to have it already close to what you want it to be.
You are also able to stay up to date on all the trailers and teasers released for MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron by selecting the movie icon. It has not just the trailers but an incredibly photo gallery from the making of the movie and other featurettes.
In the characters icon, you can learn more about each of the nine selected characters by downloading their information. Each character features information about who they are and why they’re important, as well as a photo opp (which is also located as its own icon) and the suit up option described above for certain characters. Finally, there is some cool character art for each character that you can save to use as a background on your phone or share with your friends. Oh, and at the very bottom, there’s also a listing of all the products carried at Walmart that feature that particular character. Needless to say, I know exactly what Iron Man products I plan to put on my wish list for Mother’s Day!
Under the Photo Op icon, you can take a photo with that character. Two of them are 3D and move, while the remainder are static. You can choose to include another person in the photo or set up a cool scene. The one challenge with this functionality is that you have to be scanning a particular item each time you do this, which can make it a big challenging to get the exact photo you want. To include more or less of the character’s image or change the placement within the photo, simply move your phone to adjust the character’s placement. Just don’t go too far, or you’ll lose the character entirely – which I have done more than once!
The 360 icon is the Hulkbuster Testing Facility, which unlocks only once you’ve unlocked each of the characters, again by scanning each of the images that pop up matched with the image in Walmart or online. Once they’re unlocked, you can check out the new Mark 44 Hulkbuster Amor and see exactly what it’s able to do. I won’t spoil it for you, but it’s pretty cool and makes me even more excited to go see the movie.
Avengers Bingo Game
The app is a ton of fun, but I decided to also create a non app game that would be fun for the whole family. I put together this oh so fun printable of an Avengers Bingo Game. All you need to do is print out the eight cards I created and laminate them (to ensure they last longer!), along with the two sheets of bingo squares.
Cut out each of the thirty-two different bingo squares and laminate them, or do the fast and easy “lamination” of covering each square in packing tape on front and back and trimming to leave just a little edge around each square. The bingo squares are all labeled with what the item is so that when you’re calling them out, you know what it is (you’re welcome for all those parents who aren’t quite as expert at MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron as their kids).
To play, pass out the Avengers Bingo cards to each player. Have someone else shuffle the bingo squares and call them out. You can choose whether to play traditional bingo, cover all, or any other game you like – depending on how much time you want it to take.
When we played it, this was the perfect use for our MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron Doritos. We used them as our bingo chips (Doritos chips, bingo chips, get it?), and we gave the winner of the game all the Doritos that were on everyone’s cards as the prize.
Needless to say, it was a fun way to play together as a family and enjoy a little afternoon snack. Well, as long as you won anyway!
