Giveaway: Girls Accessories

I’m not going to fool anyone.  Little Miss is just not a girly girl.  The dreams my mom had of dressing up a princess and doing her hair and nails and going shopping… they aren’t happening.  Little Miss does not like princesses, although she does enjoy getting her nails painted – so she can chip the polish off.  I can sometimes convince her to do something with her hair though, especially once lice has been reported in her classroom and she agrees that her hair needs to be kept away from her face and preferably up.

So yes, I’m constantly looking for ways to appease my mom and still allow Little Miss to express her own personality.  When Girls Crochet Headbands offered me the chance to review some of their products, I jumped at the chance – and I let Little Miss go through the online catalogue with me to choose what she liked to make sure that we’d find something she’d enjoy, too.

I was amazed by all the choices available on the website.  Many of the items, especially the clothing, tends to be for younger children and babies.  For example, the rompers (which are adorable) only go up to a size 4T.  There are other options, however, including all sorts of headbands that Little Miss absolutely adored.

We were able to choose several different options – and they’re all so affordable!  The shabby chic headband that Little Miss thinks is so fun (but I know is so adorable and fashionable and outright CUTE though I don’t dare tell her) is just $3.99.  It comes in five colors from hot pink to ivory.  Little Miss chose the black, which fortunately goes to most of what she owns.  The headband is a thin elasticized headband, so it fits a variety of head sizes.  I loved the detail on the flowers.  They really dressed up the outfit she was wearing.

The flower clips were also a huge hit.  Little Miss found a purple and white flower with a football in the center, perfect to cheer on our Vikings or our Wildcats for $2.98.  There are a ton of other football colors available if you happen to root for another team (although I don’t know why you would).  The clips fit easily onto either a crocheted headband ($0.38) or the loop of the elastic headbands ($0.50) or by itself.  Little Miss doesn’t tend to like barrettes by themselves (sigh) but this was perfect for the headband, and she’s promised me that she’ll let me clip it just about her ponytail for the next football game, too.

I like that the clips and bows are sold separately from the headbands.  It really allows you to mix and match to fit whatever style your daughter (or you – I tried, and they fit me fine) prefers.  The hair bows range from $0.99 for 2 1/4″ bows to $2.49 for 5.5″ bows.  Again, they come in all sorts of colors from the solid white that Little Miss chose to green and orange and turquoise and even fun animal prints.  Again, you can wear these alone or with a headband or however you choose, making them far more versatile than most accessories we’ve tried.

We really enjoyed the flexibility, and most days, Little Miss has been happy to wear the elastic headband by itself, which works well to keep her hair out of her face.  It’s also been perfect for gymnastics where she has to wear a ponytail but has stragglers that slide out of the ponytail and into her eyes constantly.  When we’ve popped this on her with her ponytail, she hasn’t been brushing at her face constantly during practice trying to get her hair away.

Her other favorite was the royal blue giant mum hair clip.  I love the bright colors, and all the flowers are created to be sturdy, so they are holding together great.  For $2.99, you can’t beat the quality, and I love the little bling of sparkle in the center of the flower.  Having all these options – choices she picked out herself – has helped make getting ready for school in the morning so much easier because she’s so happy to choose something fun that doesn’t pull on her hair and stays put all day.

And oh did we strike gold with a find for her legs.  Do you remember leg warmers?  I used to adore them, and I’m so excited that they’re back in style.  Girls Crochet Headbands has the most adorable leg warmers, although of course Little Miss chose the least girly of them (though I think I’ve talked her into the lace ruffle leg warmers and the gathered cotton leg warmers).  I love that there are so many sports patterns available from football to soccer to ballet, in addition to other fun patterns like cupcakes and polka dots.  Do you remember Rainbow Brite?  We found Rainbow Brite leg warmers that she absolutely adores.  These are perfect for her to wear with leggings or her leotard for gymnastics to provide just a little bit of warmth and a ton of style for $2.99 to $3.49.

The leg warmers are one size fits all and are designed for newborn to 24 months.  That said, Little Miss is a twig of a seven year old, and they fit her just fine, so depending on your daughter, you may be able to stretch the sizing quite a bit.  She’s had so much fun wearing these, and many of her friends have asked her where she got them.  I think we’re starting a whole new fashion trend at her school – who knew!  The football leg warmers are such a great match for the hair clip we got, too.  She’s definitely ready for fall football with this combo.
