It was one degree below zero today. And though we’re now in March, my gym is still very busy. It was so busy this morning, in fact, that there was not a single parking spot available when I arrived for Zumba this morning. And I do mean, not a single parking spot. Of course, were there no snow or the plows hadn’t blocked off about 30 percent of the parking lot with snow or half plowed spots, this wouldn’t have been an issue.
With the weather the way it is, I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that so many have abandoned their outdoor running and biking and have headed to the gym. It makes me giggle that it’s this much busier (literally zero treadmills or elliptical trainers available – and we have a whole lot) this far after new year’s, but it’s good for our gym, I’m sure.
The weather has also given me a few lessons when it comes to the gym.
I had a great routine going. My gym bag was always packed and ready to go. It lives in my car with my toiletries and shoes, my lock and my shower shoes. I simply grab a change of clothes and walk out the door. I don’t have to remember to bring anything because it’s ready for me. Unfortunately, I’ve learned over the past couple months that this simply doesn’t work anymore.
One day it will be warm in Chicago again, and I look forward to that day (not the day when it’s 95 degrees with 95 percent humidity, however). Until then, I’m taking my lessons to heart and hoping I remember my new routine more days than not!
