This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency on behalf of Macy’s; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. Are you coming to the Macy’s Ming Tsai event?
Back to school is coming up fast (eek, two weeks here!), and with both kids in middle school, they want new lunches. I love that my kids have a broad palate, but my inspiration doesn’t always strike when I need it to. Am I alone in this? I didn’t think so.
If you’re local to Chicago, you want to head to Macy’s on State Street. Why? The Macy’s Culinary Council hosts Chef Ming Tsai on Friday August 12th at noon for a kids’ cooking demo. The demo focuses on teaching kids to cook their own delicious meals. Tickets to the demo are free, and you can RSVP via EventBrite here. When you check in, you get a $20 Macy’s gift card (valid 8/12-19/16). Show up early, you can’t reserve seats. If you’re like me, you want to be as close to Ming Tsai cooking as possible!
Kids ages 5 and older can come cook with Ming Tsai, too, at a cost of $10 per child (RSVP for those tickets here). If your child has allergies, please note that most of the items being made contain meat, gluten, and some nuts, so if you have severe allergies, call ahead to see if they can accommodate you. All children need to have RSVPs (and be accompanied by adults – just in case you need to help them out).
Personally, I adore Chef Ming Tsai. He is a national spokesperson for the national Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) organization, something near and dear to my heart. In Massachusetts, he also worked with the Legislature to craft a bill that requires local restaurants to comply with food allergy awareness guidelines. As a child with a dairy allergy and knowing so many others who have much more severe allergies, I love seeing a chef who “gets it.” His recipes fuse East with traditional Western dishes, and making them kid friendly? Love!
Plus, on Friday any $35 purchase in the Home Department gets you a special gift and a copy of Simply Ming in Your Kitchen (while supplies last), his latest cookbook, that he will sign for you after the event. I already own a copy, and I cannot tell you how much I’ve enjoyed the recipes (among the 80 in the book) that I’ve made already. Plus, each recipe includes access to a video and shopping list, making cooking these dishes even easier. The soy sake salmon is our favorite.
Can you tell I’m just a touch excited about this Macy’s Ming Tsai event? So are my kids. Come join us at Macy’s on State Street this Friday and enjoy the delicious samples and get inspired for your back to school lunches!
