Coffee was made for mornings like this.
After being down and out with a nasty headache for two plus days, I woke up yesterday morning at 2am. And then I proceeded to get some work done and was up until after 10pm. All I was looking forward to was a good night’s sleep. I was thrilled when I didn’t even manage a full page of my book before I felt the pull of dreamland. And when Mister Man’s alarm went off at 5:30 this morning? The fact that he doesn’t know how to shut it off (and should never have set one in the first place) meant that my husband and I both woke up then. My husband generously went to determine the source of the piercing noise and take care of it. When the snooze went off 9 minutes later, he had already fallen back asleep, but I was still awake and now even more annoyed. So much for feeling refreshed when I woke up this morning, and the grey dreary skies aren’t helping.
Fortunately, coffee revives me, and I know I’m not alone. I know so many people who simply aren’t human until they’ve had their first cup. While I enjoy drinking coffee (especially when I’ve doctored it with all sorts of goodies), I’m not quite to that level. Yet. Seattle’s Best Coffee recently sent me some of their new line of coffees, and my husband and I have both been enjoying them – my husband perhaps more than myself since he cannot go anywhere in the morning before he’s gotten his caffeine mainline.
The new brews include options for both drip coffee (or in our case stovetop espresso pot coffee) and K-Cups. The ground coffee includes the House Blend and a Breakfast Blend. The House Blend – Born in Seattle – is very smooth and mellow. My husband and I both love that it isn’t too acidic and combines nicely with the milk he uses for his latte and my variety of ingredients to make all sorts of coffee blends. The Breakfast Blend – Spirited Start – is a little more full-bodied with a deeper flavor that definitely provides the jolt I need on mornings like today.
On the K-Cup side, the same varieties are offered (along with Signature Blend No 3, Toasted Hazelnut, and Very Vanilla). I sometimes feel like I’m the only person in the world who doesn’t own a Keurig, but I had a very grateful friend who was willing to try out the sample of the House Blend in a K-Cup for me. She loved it. In fact, she emailed me after she’d tasted it and tossed the empty K-Cup to beg me to tell her what the exact sample was because she enjoyed her coffee so much that she wanted to buy more of that exact blend. In my mind, there isn’t much of a better testamonial than that!
