So I have a little secret.  When the wee ones have a health issue or need their annual physicals, I make an appointment with their doctor, and I bring them in.  Sometimes that means changing my plans because I need to get them to the doctor or going out of my way to pick them up from school, and I’m fine with that.  When I have a medical problem, I tend to not go to the doctor because I don’t have the time to spare.  Good news?  The Walgreens near me now has a healthcare clinic inside that will make things a whole lot easier for me.

I’m lucky that I don’t tend to get sick that often, but when I do, it tends to be a doozy.  That said, I’ll admit that I don’t have a doctor of my own I can turn to.  I used to, but I didn’t like the changes the doctor’s office made, and I haven’t been back there in years.  So me being me, I suffer through whatever illness I have in silence, hoping I feel better soon.

Of course, sometimes I do really stupid things, like when I sprained my foot taking a loaf of bread out of my oven this spring (yes, that is a true story, although I like to pretend that I was skydiving from a plane to save my children from the fire breathing dragon who had abducted them, but oddly no one believes me when I tell that version).  In that case, I had to go to the emergency room for care.

Sprained foot Saturday

That was a pleasant night, let me tell you.  I waited forever in the waiting room because it was busy.  I had no idea how many people were in line ahead of me, and I simply got to sit there talking to a friend who conveniently showed up at my house to drive me.  It was hours before I was finally able to leave.  Now I know I could have simply gone to the Walgreens #healthcareclinic where I would know exactly how long I had to wait.  Since I went when it was convenient for me, I also could have made an appointment and shown up.  That would have been so much more convenient.

Last year, I had a sinus infection.  I knew I had a sinus infection.  I’ve had them before, and I know exactly what they feel like and based on how bad it gets, whether it’s one that will go away on its own or whether I need to get some medicine to take care of it.  That one was a bad sinus infection, and I called to make an appointment with my doctor.  Unlike my children’s pediatrician, my doctor doesn’t keep some appointments open for sick patients.  The next time I could get in to see the doctor was four days after that – during a time I had to pick the wee ones up from school.  That wasn’t going to work.

Had the Walgreens healthcare clinic been available at that time, I could have checked online to see if there was a wait.  When I check my local store right now, there is no wait, and I could walk right in.  Or I could take one of the available appointment times and schedule my appointment online.  That doesn’t exactly fit my emergency room or sinus infection experience, both of which are issues that can be treated by the healthcare clinics at Walgreens.

So no, I’m not hoping that I get sick anytime soon. But when and if I do, I think I know where I’ll turn.  And if it happens to be at 7pm?  That’s not a problem either.  My Walgreens healthcare clinic is open until 7:30pm Monday through Friday.  And there are even Saturday and Sunday hours from 9am to 4:30pm.  Getting sick or injured is never convenient, but at least the healthcare clinic at Walgreens makes getting treated as convenient as possible!

I’ve been there a couple of times. I usually go there to get my TB test when I’m starting a new job, because it is way better than going to the TB Sanitarium. Which my county really has. I feel like I instantly get TB just by walking into that place!

Very interesting blog post. I had no idea they treated things like lyme, allergies or earwax removal! I went there one time with a tick stuck to my head and they said they didn’t do bugs. 🙁 My husband was out of town so I ended up removing it myself, even though I couldn’t see what I was doing. I wonder if they changed their policy on that?

AAAAHHHH! YOUR FOOT! I broke my foot about 6 years ago. It was awful and I still have a bone sticking out of the ball of my foot. I highly recommend using crutches as long as possible. The doctor told me to use them for a month and I used them for about a week. I’m a ding dong. 🙂 I’m glad to know that Walgreens healthcare clinics offer sprain treatments.

Hey! I have the exact same thing right now, how long did it take you to recover enough to really workout?

I actually did cardio kickboxing while on crutches because I couldn’t do nothing… but I stayed on the crutches 2-3 weeks, walking crutches mostly for the last week. I didn’t do full out running, and I babied my foot a little (no roundhouse kicking of the bag) for a couple weeks after that, but by 6-7 weeks, I was pretty well healed. I think the arnica helped me a lot, and once I had less pain, starting to move it to and stretch it out so that I retained some mobility helped me. BUT every sprain is different, so you have to see what works for you and what your doctors say. I get *SO* many people reading my posts on my sprained foot all the time that it makes me realize how sadly common this is. I hope you heal soon!
