Angry Birds Star Wars Telepods Review and Giveaway

Product for Campaign Disclosure

We love Angry Birds around here.  We have for a long time.  I’m so impressed by how much the game has evolved since it first came out and how many different versions of the game there now are.  Our favorite is Angry Birds Star Wars, as it combines two of Mister Man’s loves into one game.  When Hasbro started introducing physical games to go along with the apps, we bought them and have loved playing them.  And Hasbro takes it up one more notch with the new Angry Birds Star Wars Telepods.

Review of angry birds star wars telepods

Like the previous physical games, it is based on a scene in Star Wars and uses the same characters from the Angry Birds app.  You build up a scene to knock down, just like in many of the earlier games.  In the Telepods vehicle packs ($19.99 MSRP), instead of using a launcher meant to resemble a slingshot like the app, you have your character in a vehicle that launches off the ramp after you pull it back to “charge” it.

Pull the car back and let it destroy the piggies in Angry Birds

The new cool part is that you can take the characters from the Telepods game (each game comes with 2) and port them into your Angry Birds Star Wars II game on your mobile device.  The games come with a clear plastic teleporter that essentially acts as a magnifier for a tiny QR code on the bottom of each of the characters that you place over the camera section of your phone or tablet.

Very cool QR code on the bottom of each Angry Birds Star Wars Telepods character

The wee ones love the game, and they have been enjoying playing both the physical game and importing the new characters into the game.  They haven’t decided which character is their favorite, and they have been alternating which character to use in the games (only one is allowed to be active in a level regardless of how many you have to import).  It can help make certain levels a whole lot easier, as we’ve already discovered.

The app makes it clear what you have to do to import one of the characters

We like that the game because playable in multiple formats, and all of them are relatively easy to figure out.  There is an image showing a possible setup for the scene that Mister Man used for a guide the first two times he set it up, and then he branched out on his own designs once he gained confidence.  It took him a moment to figure out how we import the telepods into the mobile Angry Birds Star Wars II app (not the original app), but we got it figured out.  The only downside there was that I have to remove my iPad from its case in order to get the telepod to work.

On the plus side, the game isn’t super expensive at an MSRP of $19.99.  There are multiple scenes and versions of the game, all of which can add on to each other.  The same goes for the characters.  There are 30 characters in all, and they can be bought separately in sets of 2 for an MSRP of $5.99 and also come with a teleporter.

If you don’t want to invest in a whole new group of Angry Birds Star Wars games but want to import characters, you could simply stock up on the two packs of characters, though each $19.99 game includes an exclusive character you can’t get in a game.

The character you choose to import goes first on a given level

So yes, Mister Man has already added every other iteration of this to his Christmas wish list.  And I’m ok with that.  I have so much to say and show about this game, so you get the video review.

And the best part?  I have a set of Angry Birds Star Wars II Telepods to give away to one lucky winner.  See the Rafflecopter below for details on how to enter.  Good luck!

Our son loves playing the Pork Side. Typical. He would take any of them… I like Darth Maul.

OMG! Edison has been bugging me about these since he saw them advertised on TV. I personally would pick Jar Jar, not because he’s like the best character, but because it would be cool to see him swing around by his tongue. I’m sure the boy would pick anyone with a light saber or life saver as I used to call them when I was little … a little Star Wars humor for you.
