Fit Update: Week 9 aka What Now?

March 11, 2013 by Michelle

So I’m officially finished with my 8 week cardio fitness challenge as of Friday.   And I feel like I accomplished a lot.  I can do so many more situps than the embarrassing 15 that I was somehow only able to do at the start – though the new instructor on Friday had us doing situps in a slightly different manner that made us all realize we aren’t nearly so strong as we thought we were.  My pushups have also significantly improved, and I’m excited about that.  Until my sprained foot, I feel like my cardio was really improving, too.

The downside?  I have to admit that while I didn’t do the class to lose weight and wanted mostly to improve my fitness level, I did it with the expectation that this would be a side benefit.  Yeah.  Not so much.   Even watching what I was eating and adding in more veggies and the like, I somehow gained almost five pounds over the past eight weeks.  And that makes me want to cry because I am trying so hard to be healthy and fit and it feels like I’m moving backwards sometimes.  Like now.

On the plus side, I have an opportunity for the next six months to really focus on both sides of the equation of losing weight while maintaining my fitness level.  I’m one of the  Shaklee 180™ bloggers who will be spending the next six months using Shaklee weight loss products (shakes, meal bars, snack bars, teas, and metabolic boosts) to help get us closer to our goal weights.

I was excited about this opportunity for several reasons.  Obviously, it dovetails nicely into what I’m already working on.  More importantly, it is a product I can feel good about.  Why?  The soy in it is nonGMO soy – do you have any idea how hard it is to find a product like that?  There are no dyes, artificial flavors, or preservatives.  Those things matter to me, and it’s hard to find.  In a weight loss program?  Good luck!

The plan has me replacing two meals a day with Shaklee products, either smoothies or the meal bars.  I also have an afternoon snack and a “regular” dinner.  The goal is to do this while staying within my calorie limit, and so far I’ve been able to do it, no problem.  I forget how much I enjoy smoothies – and how long it takes me to drink them – until I make them.  I’ve been adding a handful of spinach to all my shakes, regardless of what other fruits I put in them.  So yeah, drinking a vanilla smoothie with frozen pineapple and dried coconut that was … green was a little different, but that’s my choice and I’m good with it (it tastes amazing by the way, and no you can’t taste spinach in a smoothie).

So this is my life for the next six months.  Why?  Because I need to do this for me.  And what I’m doing on my own isn’t working.  Proof?  Avert your eyes now – this isn’t pretty.

This is me now.  The scale shows 159.2 pounds.
My waist is 35.5 inches (wait, what?  Yeah… I measured right.  Sheesh, how did that happen?)
My hips are 41 inches (good birthing hips?)
My bust is 38.5 inches
My thighs are 21.5 inches (each)
My neck is 13.5 inches
And my upper arm is 12 inches

Proof is in the pudding, right?

So yep, that’s me in all my unflattering glory.  Proof that my eight weeks didn’t do nearly what I’d hoped – but now it’s time for help with Shaklee 180™ to help me lose the weight that is sticking to my body, the fluff I don’t want or need.

Another benefit?  The cardio fitness class is over.  And with my foot and Blissdom later this month and spring break… I’m holding off starting the dance studio where I won a two month membership.  That means I have almost three weeks before I’m back in classes again, and we’ve all discovered that yes, I’m a class girl.  It’s what keeps me motivated.  Shaklee has Fit Bursts that are quick intense exercise programs that I can do from my phone in around 15 minutes to help keep me fit, especially when I’m at Blissdom where finding more than 15 minutes won’t be easy.

So I have hope now.  And boy my accountability level just went up, didn’t it?  Join me and see how I fare!

And if you’re working on a goal, link up and share how you’ve done in the past week!

In the interest of full disclosure, this is a sponsored post as part of the Shaklee Corporation blogger program. I have received free products, online support and may receive incentives for participating. All opinions are my own. People following the weight-loss portion of the Shaklee 180™ Program can expect to lose 1-2 pounds per week.

OMG I have so much more respect for you.
Not that I didn’t have any before but I give you MAD PROPS for posting your pictures.
Because I took pictures just like that and am FRIGHTENED to post them on my blog when I am done with my 30 day Shred with Jillian Michaels.
Which is up in 8 days AND I feel like there are no results whatsoever.

Kari, I was SO nervous to actually put photos out there because HELLO I can hide that with clothes. But that’s sort of the point. I’m hiding it, and that’s not doing me any good. I took measurements back when I started the 8 week challenge and … no change at all, which is so incredibly depressing to me. Definitely interested in knowing what you think of the Shred!

It is hard to post photos of yourself, I understand but when you see the before and after photos in a few months you’ll be blown away! I am so proud of you! Keep up the great work and I’m here to cheer you on!
