If you’re anything like me, your kitchen is the land of misfits. You have spice jars that are half filled that you haven’t seen in too long and so you bought another one of the same spice. Or you can’t find your brown sugar behind your flour, and oops, your brown sugar is all dried up anyway. Or your chocolate chips spilled all over the shelf and now made a huge mess.
After years of haphazard organization, I finally got my act together a little over a year ago, and it’s made things so much easier. I know where everything is now. I can pull out a container and know exactly whether I’m out of nutmeg or mustard powder – or whether I accidentally bought a second jar of mustard powder and really should make some recipes that require it.
The best part is that for some of my new organization ideas, I was able to use the plastic storage containers that I no longer use for leftover food. I’m working on transitioning to primarily glass and metal in my kitchen, but I’m not there yet – as you can see from some of my storage containers. That said, I don’t want to simply throw away the plastic storageware that I own simply because I’m not using it for food. Now? I’m glad I saved it!
