I’ve talked a lot before about how I’m a class girl when it comes to fitness. I love the comaraderie in classes, and without the deadlines of classes, I’ve found that it’s too easy to simply “go in a little bit” that stretches past my window of opportunity. My favorite part about classes, however, is that they push me. I can’t give up because everyone else is still going, and it gives me energy and support when we’re all doing it together.

Les Mills, creator of 13 global group fitness and team training programs, and Reebok gets this. In the 15,500 licensed clubs, independent research has shown that their participants come to their Les Mills club at least two times more each week than others and 94% are likely to refer a friend. That’s pretty impressive, so when they announce they’re partnering to come out with an entirely new concept, I sit up and listen.

I got a sneak peek into The Project: IMMERSIVE FITNESS™, and I am fascinated. It recently debuted in London and will be heading out on tour – including in the US in 2015 in pop-up studios – in major European cities starting this summer. The concept takes group fitness and incorporates technology to immerse you into that fitness world.

Can you imagine doing a spin class where you see the glacier you’re climbing or the space you’re flying through?

Are you finally doing your yoga on the beach?

Are you in a massive tent with hundreds of other people dancing or in a club rocking it out? With inspiration from 360 degree cinema and live music performance technology, The Project: IMMERSIVE FITNESS™ does just that.

Each class is choreographed and has specially trained instructors so that your movements are completely in tune with the graphics on the huge screen and the music that is pumping through the class. I can only imagine the lift I’d get from a class like this, and I can’t wait until it comes on tour to Chicago.

I don’t know that it will get me to do a spin class again, but it looks like an amazing dance experience, and there are so many other types of classes that will also be a part of this that are right up my alley.

When will The Project: IMMERSIVE FITNESS™ come to a town near you? You’ll have to follow along to see when this collaboration between Les Mills and Reebok arrives, or you can sign up to receive updates. The IMMERSIVE FITNESS™ Instagram account has even more great images and videos from the new class concept, perfect for getting a feel for what’s to come. Are you a class kind of girl, too? Would you like to see Immersive Fitness offered at your local gym?
