Surprise Christmas Gift Hits 2013

December 26, 2013 by Michelle

We always hope that the gifts we place under the tree are “exactly” what the recipient hoped for, even if they didn’t know they wanted it before they opened it.  This year, we know Disney Infinity was going to be a hit with the wee ones.  That’s a no-brainer.  The Oozma Kappa Monsters University t-shirt I had custom made for Little Miss?  Definitely going to be a favorite (more on that gift another day).  There are always some that are favorite gifts that you don’t expect to be quite so popular, however.

This year, we had a few.  First up was the one pound Reese’s peanut butter cups in Mister Man’s stocking.  Oh my word was the boy thrilled.  They are as big as his head, and I’m pretty sure his eyes were about that big when he discovered the treat, too.  Personally, I think that’s obnoxiously large and something that almost needs to be eaten with a knife and spoon, but not only does Mister Man love it, he can’t wait to share it with others.

We’ve also spent the majority of yesterday and today playing board games.  Granted, we like board games.  Sitting down to play Monopoly or Chutes and Ladders or one of our Angry Birds games.  The wee ones received several games for Christmas this year, and given how many “fancier” toys they got, I was shocked by how much time we’ve spent playing them over and over again as a family.

Just… don’t ask my husband about the rules to Sequence. He’s a little bitter.

But that’s not all.  There’s more.  What are your surprise hit gifts this year?

The best surprise gifts that I GOT were an ice cream maker and a drum practice pad! The best surprise gift I GAVE was probably a White Sox themed birdhouse I made for my dad, who loves the White Sox and also enjoys watching the birds in our yard. (He used to have a bird feeder also but my mom tore it down in a fit of anger because squirrels kept eating her flowers!)
